Newsy Stuff

We had a good cookout and fellowship after church service on Sunday May 30th…Recently I noticed a news item on TV that seemed to indicate that the Iraqis could be bought with American money and goods. It seems when we go into an area in Iraq and start to rebuild with our money and material some of the Iraqis seem to quit attacking us. Could it be also that some of them see the Christian influence in us instead of the selfish take, take, take attitude seen so much in those who come and conquer. They are seeing an actual concern for the people instead of hatred. I realize not all of our people act this way but most try to…We have been studying in Galatians Sunday nights and Proverbs on Wednesday nights. Sunday mornings we have had lessons on Faithfulness, Parent-Child relations, Mothers (on Mother's Day), Current Events (The Last Days), Palm Sunday message and on May 30th we had another Question and Answer (Stump the Preacher) Sunday. You'll have to do better than that to stump this preacher. I'll have to let you know when the next one will be. Once a month may be too often, it interferes with the regular sermon schedule. See you in the church service on Sunday.

Apologetics
I'm not apologizing; Part 4.

David Vaughn Elliott has a web site full of prophecy tidbits at, http://insight2bp.homestead.com/. We find that prophecy is indispensable when we talk about Apologetics. Through prophecy we are able to see the truth about Jesus life, death, burial and resurrection. Without prophecy the Bible is just another storybook full of nice things. Here are two articles written by David that I have placed together in this Apologetics article for clarity of how prophecy proves the Bible and Jesus Christ.

Is Prophecy Practical?
by David Vaughn Elliott

A few months ago, Margaret and I were conversing with a couple of good Christian ladies. When the subject of prophecy came up, they let it be known that they were not much interested. They were rather interested in the practical aspects of the Christian life. How about it? Is prophecy practical? Yes. Prophecy is "practical" because it offers a basis for faith. God himself challenges other religions to prove they are divine. "Produce your cause, says the LORD . . . show the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that you are gods" (Isaiah 41:21-23). Fulfilled prophecy proves the Bible to be the Word of God. Fulfilled prophecy builds and sustains true faith. That sounds very practical in the midst of a materialistic world.
Prophecy is also "practical" because it offers motivation for holy living. Listen. "There shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? . . . But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise . . . Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in all holy conduct and godliness" (2 Peter 3:2-11). Those who scoff at unfulfilled prophecies live in lust. Those who heed such prophecies are motivated to live holy lives. That sounds very practical in the midst of a pleasure-loving society.
