June '05 Announcements:
We are saddened at the loss of Virginia (Ginny) Hanze in April. We met Dick and Ginny Hanze at the Delmarva Family Camp a number of years ago and became friends. Dick was preaching in the Pittsburgh PA area. We met Shirley and Art Hanze, Dick's brother and wife, a number of years before, as we made our way to the eastern shore through the Pittsburgh area. Art Hanze preaches at the Monroeville Christian Church near Pittsburgh, PA. I grew up in the Pittsburgh area and we were back looking for work. Ginny was a kind and gentle person every time we fellowshipped together at camp. I'm sure she will be missed by all that knew her. I have been negotiating for a schedule change at work (at Piedmont Airlines) so that I will be able to have more time with the tiny congregation on Sundays. I have wanted to return to our regular schedule for Sunday school, Worship service and Sunday evening service. So far, I have been unsuccessful in doing that. I expect to be able to change for sure in October, given everything else stays the same. I had an enjoyable time at the Men's Retreat in McCoy, VA. on April 29. Garreth Reese spoke on the end times. I had hoped he would say more than he did but what can you say in a two-hour session. You barely touch the topic. He gave some direction to the topic and some warnings about false notions of prophecy. The book Nobody Left Behind came up as a good reference book on the topic of end times things. I have had articles from the author of the book in several previous newsletters and this newsletter. If you would like to purchase the book contact me and I will give you the address. I also have links to his web site on our web site. Without Bible prophecy where would we be?
Preachin' stuff
Forty years ago, when I was transitioning from what they called junior high school to senior high school, I didn't notice a change the school system made. They took out the prayer and Bible reading that was so prevalent in public school opening exercises before that time. I didn't notice because I thought "that's just the way they do it here in high school." I didn't know that it happened all across the country. It was years later when it finally hit me. Even after that realization I didn't know the consequences of their actions. I remember helping with morning devotions in public school once, when I was younger. Although I, eventually, knew taking prayer and Bible reading out of school wasn't good, I didn't see that it would weaken the moral fiber of the entire country. Today, forty years later, we are seeing further progression of that erosion of morality in schools with among other things, shootings, sexual perversion from the teachers and the general degrading of the curriculum. I have learned since then that we cannot look to the public school system to hold our values and mold our children into the kind of people we would like to see. We need to be involved directly in our children's and grandchildren's lives constantly. We need to teach our children to live Godly lives. The public school system won't do it; we have to do it ourselves. In one of my recent sermons, since the Terri Schivo incident (the woman who was taken off of the feeding tube in Fl), I illustrated how we are not to look to those in public office for our salvation either from injustice in this life or for our eternal salvation. I Corinthians 6: indicates that we are not to go to secular (worldly) judges to judge between brothers (or sisters). Verse 1 says; "Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unrighteous and not before the saints?" Read the rest of chapter 6 sometime. Before we get too far along I want to recognize that there are a few in the government of the US at almost all levels and positions who would be considered by many to be Christian. That would be good if we could be assured that they are the ones hearing our case. That is usually not the situation though. That gives us the sinking feeling that we would, as Christians, not be fairly judged and our case not processed with consideration of our Christian beliefs. We would b e lumped together with the heathen, Jews, Moslems and other religions and maybe treated even
